Pakistan Flooding Displaces 20 Million People

Heavy monsoon rains in Pakistan have created the worst flooding in 60 years.

“Thousands of acres of crops have been washed away along with houses,” reports Dr. Rahiz, our partner leader in Pakistan. “People have lost all their belongings.”

According to the United Nations, at least 1,500 people have died and another 20 million are displaced or otherwise affected — and now impacts more people than the tsunami in 2004.

Roads and bridges have crumbled, leaving survivors with no access to dry shelter, food, or clean water.

Christians provide relief in Taliban heartland

The flooding started in the northwest, an area that experienced some of the harshest Taliban rule in the past, and is now washing down through the more densely populated areas of the country.

Dr. Rahiz — an ex-Taliban medical doctor — now leads our partner ministry working in northwest Pakistan. Our partners have already developed a network of cell groups and are working with other evangelical groups to respond to this crisis — in a region that is difficult for outside agencies to gain access.

We need your help to equip our brothers in Pakistan to minister to urgent needs in the name of Jesus. The ministry is ready to offer compassionate assistance in communities that are 100 percent Muslim. Our partners in northwest Pakistan are able to deliver supplies to the homeless, and come alongside displaced families as they try to rebuild their lives.
