Antu Biswas studies in Grade 3 at the primary school. Her parents run a small tea shop and work hard to make sure their daughter gets a good education. Antu came to the school three years ago when it was held in a small church building.
“I did not like the school much when I first came here as we did not have separate class rooms, it was crowded and noisy,” she says.
But with the new school buildings, her attitude has changed. “Now,” Antu says, “I like the school very much because we have got a separate class room and we have fan to keep us cool during this hot summer. I like to sing Jesus’ songs and every morning we are learning from Bible. I have learned that God loves us, and he listens to our prayers.”
You have given tribal children the life-changing opportunity of education
With your help, 340 pre-school and elementary-age children are now studying in the Knapps Primary School, and another 50 young people are studying in the partially-completed high school. Many of these students are getting an education they could never have dreamed of before.
In the past, most tribal children were not allowed to study in the public Bengali schools. And very few ever advanced to high school or beyond. Thank you for helping to reverse this injustice.
Together we have made a wonderful start, but we need your help to bring the finishing touches to this important project.
Our goal this year is to bring the high school building to the place where NBOM can apply to the government for official registration. However, before the application can be made the science wing — with four labs, three science rooms, a computer lab and teachers’ offices — needs to be completed and books purchased for the library.
Once the high school is officially registered, graduates will have an opportunity to go on to further studies — a brand new door of opportunity for many young people in North Bengal.
Help our partners take the next step in providing children with quality education.
Work has already begun on preparing the foundation. And we want to do everything we can to support this project and keep it moving forward. Please consider a year-end donation of $250 toward this important project, so that the walls and classrooms can be completed in time for a new class of students in the fall.
You have been a blessing to many tribal children in North Bengal. Please continue your support and help these schools take the next step toward offering the area’s best education for children. Your gift today will help provide the tools they need to step into a more prosperous and fulfilling future.
